DEIJ Consultant

REQUEST FOR LETTERS OF INTEREST
FOR
POLICY EVALUATION WITH A DEIJ FOCUS

Welcome!

As part of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) and Anti-Oppression (AO) organizational strategy, Multiplier is looking for a consultant or consultants with a DEIJ approach to conduct an audit of our organizational policies. The goal of this short-term contract is to align policies with Multiplier’s DEIJ strategy and Anti-racism and Anti-oppression principles, practices and values. In addition, the consultant(s) will provide key knowledge and skills to core Directors and Multiplier to build capacity for future policy development. Consultant(s) will work closely and be supported by the Director of DEIJ Initiatives and Head of Operations and Project Experience.

Initial Scope of Work

Multiplier is looking for an individual or organization to:

  • Conduct an audit of Multiplier’s key policies that will result in a plan to implement changes to policy or practice, as suggested by the consultant.
  • Provide relevant knowledge and skills to Multiplier’s leadership team to ensure future policies are created with DEIJ and Anti-oppression in mind.
  • Assess our existing policies and identify any missing policies to help us identify ways to foster equitable access and participation to policies.
  • Develop strategy screens for future policies to be developed with DEIJ and AO best practices as suggested by consultant.

Desired Audit Outcomes

The selected individual or organization will complete an audit that includes:

  • Reviewing a subset of Multiplier’s internal policies (estimated 10-15 policies) across diverse areas of operations and procedures. This audit should be reviewed with a DEIJ lens to identify unintentional racist or oppressive language and practices. Some policies span onboarding practices, non-legal recommendations to Employee Manual and operational specific policies. Our Employee Manual’s legal language is not part of this engagement.
  • Designing strategy screens reflecting values of accessibility, equity and anti-oppression to create future policies with DEIJ at the core. The design of these strategy screens should be developed in collaboration with specific Directors at Multiplier to build capacity and ensure future policies are comprehensive.
  • Working closely with key leaders at Multiplier, the consultant(s) will increase their knowledge and skill capacity to ensure that our policies and practices are aligned with DEIJ best practices.
  • Providing our team with specific guidance to enable the team to make the recommended changes.
  • Identifying any gaps in policies and recommending additional policies and practices that would support our DEIJ priorities and align with Anti-racism and Anti-oppression best practices.
  • Reviewing how policies are currently stored and accessed. Suggest ways to foster more open and equitable access to policies across our teams and projects.

Deliverables

  • A detailed report of Multiplier’s internal policy audit conducted by the consultant with outlined recommendations and an implementation guide.
  • Recommendations and revisions made to a subset of policies demonstrating how Multiplier can ensure DEIJ and AO principles are followed.
  • Comprehensive knowledge building activities for Director of DEIJ, Director of Operations and Project Experience and the Director of Human Resources.

To ensure a transparent process, we are seeking individuals to submit a Letter of Interest if they qualify on the following requirements:

  • We are seeking consultants with experience in leveraging DEIJ and Anti-Oppression principles to complete organizational policy audits.
  • We are seeking consultants to complete this work by early January 2025.
  • We are seeking consultants who align with our budget.
  • Letters of interest should not exceed more than one page.

If this sounds like you, we invite you to submit your Letter of Interest.

Organizational Overview

About Multiplier

Multiplier serves as an umbrella organization, hosting approximately 50 project teams who focus on specific aspects of our mission: accelerating impact for regional, national and international initiatives that protect and foster a healthy, sustainable, resilient and equitable world.

Growing threats to our planet and its people require holistic solutions, both locally and globally. The projects in our portfolio span a broad array of cross-sector strategies in land and ocean conservation, public health, education and leadership, economic development, clean energy, climate resilience, sustainable food systems, energy efficiency, social and environmental equity, and more.

With $65 million in revenue in 2023, Multiplier is a high-performance, rapidly growing organization. Multiplier’s over 180 employees across 50-plus projects are led by entrepreneurs, scientists, advocates, conservationists, and investors who are forging new pathways to strong stewardship of our planet. Their cross-sector strategies encompass land and ocean conservation, public health, clean energy, energy efficiency, sustainable food systems, innovative finance, and social and environmental equity. Our projects are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

DEIJ at Multiplier

In 2016, Multiplier began a transformation to the thriving accelerator that we have become today. As we have moved our accelerator work forward, the world has also evolved. The urgent call for justice has grown louder, systemic inequities remain starkly evident, and we are urgently called to do the work of integrating principles of DEIJ into our work and the work of our projects more deeply and with great intention.

In 2023, this urgent calling led Multiplier to form an internal DEIJ Working Group to do the internal pre-work necessary to garner support from our central administrative and executive team, our project teams, and our Board of Directors. In December 2023, a high-level two-year DEIJ strategy was finalized and includes:

  • Shared definitions for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, Anti-racism, and Anti-oppression.
  • DEIJ mission, vision, and theory of change, leveraging our hierarchy of change model.
  • Overarching two-year DEIJ goal to inspire action in three areas that Multiplier has influence.
  • Clear objectives, activities, and next steps for shifting from DEIJ strategy development to initiative implementation.

To support our DEIJ and Anti-Oppression Strategic Plan, Multiplier seeks the expertise of a consultant that will audit opportunities to strengthen, build or supplement our organizational policies.
